Angel Flight Soars fills a vital role for patients who need medical care outside the Atlanta area. Private pilots based out of a Hartsfield-Jackson Airport volunteer their time to transport these patients free of charge to get the lifesaving medical treatment they wouldn’t receive otherwise. Founded by Jim Schaeffer in 1983 as a loosely organized group helping patients when possible, Angel Flight Soars has grown to coordinate eight missions a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Volunteers for Second Helpings Atlanta Inc. have picked up excess food and delivered it to various distribution points since 2004.
